What Does the Bible say about Mediums, Fortune Tellers, Aliens and Paganism?

We all have this burning desire to know what the future holds. There are so many unknowns and we want to have some power and control over our relationships, careers, money, etc. Maybe, we even want some control over those around us. The bible directs us to place all of that in God's hands; to rest in Him. You see, prayer isn't about getting what we want. It is about learning to trust in God and lean into Him, letting go of control, anxiety and selfishness. If we can trust Him in the small things, we will be better equipped to trust Him in the big things. Letting go of our selfish desires and learning to trust in Him while cultivating gratefulness, leads us to experience abundant joy. The joy is not in having things. Pure joy is found in peace, contentment and selfless love.

Unfortunately, so many of us are caught up in the desire for wealth, power and control. We feel that these things will bring us joy. We don't have time to invest in or cultivate relationships with God or others, we want the quick fix. This is where spiritualism finds its attraction. The proof is in growing pagan faiths and the multi-million dollar industry that sells us the illusion of knowledge and success from beyond the grave or from beyond our physical dimension. In some cases, we just miss our loved ones and don't know or care about what the Bible teaches about death. Some of us want nothing to do with God and are looking for answers we think have a basis in science.

The Bible warns us about using mediums, fortune tellers, sorcerers, etc. Today, we can also include spirit guides, ghosts, angels, and aliens who are all reaching out from beyond our dimension to contact us in increasing numbers. In 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, it says, “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness”.

When it comes to contacting the dead, the Bible is clear that the dead don't know anything (Ecclesiastes 9:5). They are asleep in the grave until the resurrection. So, whomever we think we're contacting from beyond the grave, must be an imposter! How easy do you think this is for Satan and the other demons to do? They are fallen angels that can appear as anything they choose. They can sound like anyone, look like anyone and have knowledge of any act done in secret. Secret knowledge is not proof of their claim!

This is also true of mediums, people claiming to be reincarnated or psychics. These people may be perfectly sincere, but they are deceived and used by Satan to perpetrate lies. Satan and his servants can plant ideas, thoughts, visions and dreams in our heads. They can even manifest things to make their lies appear real.

The newest phenomenon to add to this list are alien encounters. A growing number of perfectly rational people are having encounters using what they believe are scientific methods of communication; conscious thought experiments. In the same way you would summon a ghost, demon or spirit guide, scientists and atheists are encouraged to contact aliens. It's the same thing, just marketed in a different package.

Bible Texts

Below are some texts that warn us against dabbling in the supernatural. As we get closer to Jesus' second coming, 1 Timothy 4:1 warns us that Christians will abandon their faith and choose spiritualism. Satan is extremely subtle and brilliant. You're looking at thousands of years of study in human behavior and psychology paired with cunning and deception in a brain that is superior in intellect to even our most accomplished geniuses. Don't believe his lie to Eve that God wants all the knowledge and power for Himself. God's warning to stay away, is to provide us with protection. There is nothing Satan can give us that will satisfy our needs. It will only leave us wanting more and ultimately lead to our destruction.
